Joinery/millwork options- Part 1- Flat front and shaker style cabinets

This week, I spent quite a bit of time with clients going through options for joinery. There are infinite ways to style joinery. There are so many profiles and options available and it’s an opportunity to play with dimensions and details. Here are a few.

These flat fronted cabinets are probably the most simple of all designs. In this case, they are made more interesting by the combination of materials and the shadow lines created by recessing finger pulls.

More traditional homes often use shaker style cabinets. It is particularly popular in Hamptons and country style kitchens and may seem more homey and warm in comparison with the more clinical flat fronted cabinets.

Mim Design put together this shaker style kitchen which was made more contemporary by adding in glass doors and creating joinery that is taken to the ground. The open shelving also adds a contemporary touch as it is more customary to have cupboards above in the same style.
